PROFESSOR HONGYIN ZHANG

PROF. HONGYIN ZHANG is a professor and Associate Dean of School of Food and Biological Engineering, Jiangsu University(China). He received his PhD from the college of Biosystems Engineering and Food Science, Zhejiang Unversity in 2004.He has been a visiting scholar at The University of Queenland, Australia, and University of Florida, USA. Professor Zhang is interested in the advanced education(Ph.D) of young student/scientists from Africa. Professor Zhang was instrumental in engaging Jiangsu University in China in the World Food Preservation Centr LLC and is leading in the education of young student/scientist from Africa in biologically-based technologies as alternatives to synthetic pesticides for the control of postharvest diseases. He has supervised five international PhD students coming from developing countries. Among the five international PhD students he has supervised, two African students have graduated successfully with PhD degrees from Jiangsu University and three students are now pursuing their PhD degress. Two international Post-doctoral researchers from developing countries are noe in Dr.Zhang's Lab. Dr. Zhang's interests in food microbiology, postharvest biological control of diseases of fruits and vegetables, postharvest plant physiology and pathology, biological control of diseases of fruits and vegetables, postharvest plant physiology and pathology.He has pioneered in research on the biological control and biodegradation of fungal toxins in agricultural products. Prof Zhang has authored over 100 scientific publications and 9 patents. He received second prize in natural science from the Chinese Ministry of Education in 2016, and was awarded outstanding youth award by Chiniese Institution of Food Science and Technology in 2017.
