He played an important role in the growth of Toxicologyin India. He brought in concepts of mechanistic toxicology, for assessing the risk to toxic substances and the need to identify the target molecules, which could be used as markers of exposure and prediction of adverse effects of chemicals on health. His pioneering contributions to neurosciences include delineation of the mechanisms of action of chemicals, including pesticides acting on the central nervous system, validating peripheral markers for CNS and demonstrating the presence and role of drug metabolizing enzymes in brain and action of drugs and chemicals.
In view of his academic contributions, Dr. Seth has been invited to serve as Visiting Scientist and Visiting Professor at several U.S. institutions (NIH, FDA) and universities. He has been elected as a fellow of the, Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmacologicum, Indian, National Science Academy, National Science Academy, India, National Academy of Medical Sciences, and other scientific bodies.
